Third Chakra the Solar Plexus chakra  (Manipura chakra)

Located:  between the navel and the solar plexus ( the solar plexus is in back of the stomach, upper abdomen where many arteries and nerves come together.  If you get hit in the solar plexus it’s called “getting the wind knocked out of you.”)

The Solar Plexus chakra is associated with willpower, self esteem, self-discipline and the perception of who you are.

This chakra provides a sense of personal power, confidence, responsibility and reliability.  It allows you to transform inertia into action and movement, and to meet challenges and move forward.

Color:  Yellow

Element:  Fire

Gemstones associated with the Solar Plexus chakra:

Citrine

Amber

Yellow jade

Yellow topaz

Sunstone

An imbalanced Solar Plexus chakra :

Overactive:  reactive behavior, emotional outbursts, stressed state of being

Underactive:  passive behavior, inactivity, inability to make choices and set boundaries

A balanced third chakra allows you the ability to move forward in life with confidence and power, and the ability to make powerful, conscious choices.  You are confident in your ability to do things well, and are able to express yourself freely. You know you have the power to choose!

Poses that strengthen the Solar Plexus chakra are poses that strengthen your core:

Warrior 1:

Stand in a lunge with front knee bent and front foot in line with front knee.  ( about 3.5 feet apart) Back foot is turned in at 45 degree angle and back knee is straight.  Bring arms up over head with straight elbows and touch palms together. Make sure both feet are planted firmly into ground.  As you exhale you can gently bend the front knee further keeping it in alignment with the front foot.

Warrior 2:

Taking the same leg position for Warrior 1, bring arms out to the side in a T shape, in the same plane as the legs.  Shoulders with face the same way as the hips. Look over your front hand and stretch the back hand behind inline with the long back leg.

Be sure to engage the core in both positions.  Think of bringing your belly button toward your spine.

Activities to help balance the Solar Plexus chakra;

Get outside in the Sun!  Walk, meditate or do Yoga outside.

Affirmations for a balance Solar Plexus chakra:

I love and accept myself and I choose the best for myself.

I express myself in a clear, powerful way.

I choose healthy relationships and activities.

I am free to choose in any situation.
