The Cold MoonDecember 7th, 2022 |
|
December’s full Moon is most commonly known as the Cold Moon—a Mohawk name that conveys the frigid conditions of this time of year, when cold weather truly begins to grip us. Other names that allude to the cold and snow include:
This full Moon has also been called the Long Night Moon (Mohican), as it rises during the “longest” nights of the year, which are near the December winter solstice. This name is doubly fitting because December’s full Moon shines above the horizon for a longer period of time than most full Moons. Other names include Moon When the Deer Shed Their Antlers (Dakota) and Little Spirit Moon (Anishinaabe). In Europe, ancient pagans called the December full Moon the “Moon Before Yule,” in honor of the Yuletide festival celebrating the return of the sun heralded by winter solstice. and Winter Maker Moon (Western Abenaki). |

What’s Going on in December
It has been super cold in Denver. Remember this time of year how important it is to stay healthy! The hot, to cold, to hot can reek havoc on our wei qi (think thin candy shell that protects us/ keeps us healthy). Wear a scarf to protect your neck/wind gate, keep a hat on to keep your head warm- your mom was right when she said all the heat is escaping from your head! Keep those knees and ankles covered. Knees and ankles are related to the kidney and bladder channels which are related to your bones. Keep your bones warm and healthy by protecting them from the cold. Everyone is or has been sick lately in Denver and it’s no wonder with the lack of germs we have been exposed to over the past 2 years! All the more reason to take care of yourself! Wash your hands, eat healthy, drink lots of water, SLEEP, and get ACUPUNCTURE! |
