Happy Full Snow Moon

Happy Full Snow Moon

The Snow Wolf Moon will be at its peak on Saturday, February 24th at 5:30am MTS. The name “the snow moon” is pretty straight forward as February is usually the snowiest month, although that’s always up for debate in Denver . . . . this moon is also known as the Boney Moon or Hungry Moon by the Cherokee people as food was much harder to come by in the dead of winter.

You may notice that the moon looks much farther away than other full moons as this month is a micro moon- think opposite of super moon. Because the moon moves in an elliptical pattern, this one happens to be about 252,225 miles away from Earth!

February is a special month for me as it’s my birthday month and Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday.

I know- cheesy and controversial/ annoying for many, but the reason it’s my favorite holiday is that my family has a tradition of sending each other cards. and texts. Not extravagant gifts or cards, but just simple cards to say I love you and I’m thinking of you.

I think it’s a great time to remind those you love that you are here for them and a great time to love yourself through some sort of self care!!!!

Speaking of selfcare- February is Heart Health Month and Emotional Care month. What better way to think about caring for yourself than focusing on your heart and emotions! Acupuncture is so fantastic for calming the heart (referred to as the shen in Chinese Medicine) and helping to balance our emotions. Book an appointment with me or Jackie to take care of YOU!

Need something to help with stress an emotions in between appointments? Check out my R&R tincture. More fun information about February . . . . February comes from the Latin “Februa” which means “purification”. Maybe because this is the last full month of winter and the cold purifies everything by killing it off before spring brings everything back to life? Hmmmmm . . . . Don’t worry- the Groundhog predicted an early spring so we will all be ready for rejuvenation soon.

And speaking of REJUVENATION!

The Chinese New Year Celebration of the Year of the Dragon will wrap up tomorrow! To celebrate, enjoy this super easy and super yummy and healthy dinner! My Ramen and Potstickers!

400 g/14oz coconut milk

2 cups /500ml chicken or vegetable broth

2 tsp lime zest (1 lime)

8oz Udon Noodles/ whatever noodles you prefer

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced

3-4 carrots, cut like matchsticks

1 Bokchoy- thinly sliced and halved

1 container of shiitake mushrooms

OR any other veggies you like!

Warm the broth and add in the mushrooms and bok choy, boil and cook ramen noodles to your liking

To serve: Place noodles in bowl, top with veggies, then top with broth. Can add a bit of chopped cilantro and siracha to your liking!

1 package of wonton wrappers

1 package of ground pork- optional

1/2 the carton of shitake muscrooms- finely chopped

2-3 slices purple cabbage- finely chopped

2 scallions- finely chopped

Season the pork with salt and pepper and cook until there is no pink. Set aside.

Saute all the veggies with olive oil, salt, pepper, 1 clove of smashed garlic, and a bit of fresh grated ginger if you have it.

Fill each wonton wrapper with veggies, pork, or both! Use a bit of water to seal the wrapper edges together.

Gently place each in a pan and fry until golden brown. My family likes the potstickers with just a bit of soy sauce.

I’ve been a licensed massage therapist for three years, although I’ve always been drawn to the practice. I decided to enter this career path because it called to me as my ikigai, a Japanese term for a passion that gives value and joy to life. It’s the intersection of what I love, what I’m good at and what the world needs. Some of the most prominent needs I see in the world are for nervous system regulation, tension relief and emotional integration. Through intention, communication, applied therapeutic techniques and engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, I assist clients in achieving release, alignment, improved mobility and overall state of wellness. I truly love holding a safe and calming space for others in their healing journey to feeling their best.

I received 700 hours of education from Higher Elevation Healing Arts in Gypsum, Colorado and the Arizona School of Integrative Studies in Flagstaff, Arizona. My studies included Swedish and Thai massage, trigger point release, injury rehab, postural analysis, sports massage, hot stone massage, pregnancy massage, lymphatic drainage, myofascial release, reflexology, and reiki.
