Many of you have probably experienced the sharing of treaded germs with all the holiday cheer and kids being home. Therefore, if you know me, you know I’m telling everyone I know about my moxa roller. With all of the germs and sickness floating around during this time of year, we have been practically bathing in the moxa roller to heal my younger son and to prevent the rest of us from getting sick.
What is Moxa
Moxa, or Mugwort leaf, or Artemesia, or Ai Ye, is probably the oldest form of medicine in the world! It is believed that it may be among the earliest cultivated herbs and has been used in China for more than 4,000 years. This herb can be found growing in much of the United States (including Colorado!), as well as Europe, Northern Africa, and of course, Asia.
Benefits of Moxa
While this herb can be taken internally in tea, is most commonly known for being burned during acupuncture treatments. The moxa can be placed directly on a patient with some sort of barrier to prevent burning, or on an acupuncture needle. Moxibustion, the technique of using moxa, has many health benefits including warming the area, increasing white blood cell count, calming pain, stops bleeding, dispels dampness, and stops itching. The properties of moxa are:
-
Antiasthmatic
-
Antibacterial
-
Antidiarrheal
-
Antiplatelet
-
Antitussive
-
Cholagogic
-
Expectorant
-
Hemostatic
-
Sedative
-
Hypnotic
So yeah, it basically treats everything! Therefore, I’ve created a rollerball so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of moxa safely at any time!
I soak the raw form of mugwort in grapeseed oil for 6 months and then strain and bottle it into rollerballs. Rolling the moxa roller on specific acupuncture/acupressure points activates those specific points and in turn, helps in healing the body.
For example, rolling Moxa on the head helps with headaches; rolling it on the chest can help with asthma, colds, and coughs; rolling on stomach 36 (located 4 fingers below the knee and 1 finger anterior border of the tibia) boosts overall health and wellness. Additionally, you can roll moxa on the lower abdomen can ease menstrual cramps; knees and lower back to ease pain, on sinuses to stop sneezing and ease congestion and sinus pressure. Clearly, the benefits of Moxa rolling are endless.
